What’s happening at The Picture House

A Future Filled with Can’t-Miss-Moments

by Sarah Soliman

All good movies have their ‘can’t-miss-moments’: “You had me at hello.” (Jerry McGuire); “Here’s looking at you, kid.” (Casablanca); “You’re gonna need a bigger boat.” (Jaws). These are the scenes that stay with you long after the credits have rolled.

As our Picture House community comes together in person again, you’re helping us create our own can’t-miss-moments — both the celebratory milestones, and the everyday occurrences we might have taken for granted in the past. Seeing audiences spilling into the lobby, the aroma of popcorn in the air, and images lighting up the big screen — these can’t-miss-moments now contain an extra spark of gratitude.

The past few months have been joyful ones at The Picture House. Over two hundred people gathered to watch local swimmer Kate Douglass win an Olympic bronze medal; children put their creativity into action at filmmaking camp, while high school students were hard at work on a documentary; free Senior Cinema screenings resumed; and Film Club welcomed a new host, who brought an exciting slate of films and special guests to the theater. These occasions remind us that connection and togetherness bring light into our daily lives, lessening the challenges many of us continue to face.

There is magic in the movies, and it’s best enjoyed together.

Your support is what makes this all possible. Without you, The Picture House would not be alive and well — and celebrating its centennial! Without you, students in under-resourced schools would not benefit from our education programs that open them up to new possibilities. Without you, these can’t-miss-moments would be much harder to come by. You make a difference!

Help us fund the future.

Thank you! Can’t wait to see you at the movies!
