A Winter of Wonderful Films at TPH Film Club

by Clayton Bushong

We are just a little over a week away from Winter Film Club and finalizing our movie selections and guests. As you may know, we added an additional version of our much loved Film Club to our new location in Bronxville on Tuesday nights. Between the two film clubs this past fall, we had great movies — like Bad Axe — that are generating Oscar buzz and incredible guests, like director Lizzie Gottlieb who brought us Turn Every Page and director Josh Alexander who brought us Loudmouth. And while She Said wasn’t a hit with the national audience, it seemed to resonate very well with our audience. Nothing beats going into the office the week of Film Club and hearing your office mates or friends talk about some movie that is about to come out and you saying “Oh yeah, I saw that!”

Winter is always one of my favorite seasons for Film Club. It is traditionally Oscar Season and a lot of studios wait to release movies until after the Oscars or even wait until the summer. This means we have to dig deeper into some more independent movies and guests that would normally get brushed aside for bigger titles and stars. But this is where you often find some amazing gems and some up-and-coming filmmakers that may become household names some day. You may just find a new favorite movie that nobody else will ever see.

This winter at The Picture House, come share the experience of seeing fascinating movies and hearing behind-the-scenes stories of how they were made. The Picture House Film Club Bronxville starts Tuesday, January 24. The Picture House Film Club Pelham starts Wednesday, February 1. Subscribe today!
