FAQs That You Can Use

by Sarah Soliman

Between opening a second location and our May member drive there are a lot of new people to welcome to the TPH community! We want to make sure you get the most out of your TPH experience, that any questions you might have are answered, and that you know where to go if new questions come up. This FAQ provides the answers to the common questions we get and tells you how to contact us if you’re wondering about something we haven’t touched on here. Remember, you can always email info@thepicturehouse.org!

About The Picture House

What is The Picture House?

The Picture House Regional Film Center is a nonprofit regional film center with locations in Pelham and Bronxville. We show blockbusters, independent films, documentaries, international cinema, and more. We have special events, from post-screening Q&As to live performances. We also have a robust education program offering classes and camps to students of all ages.

What sort of movies do you show?

The Picture House programs a wide variety of films. At both Pelham and Bronxville you’ll be able to see the best in box office hits, indie flicks, documentaries, and international cinema.

Do I need to be a member to see movies at The Picture House?

No, The Picture House is open to the general public. Because we’re a nonprofit, we have a membership program, but we welcome everyone who wants to come see a movie or take part in a class.

What is The Picture House Film Club?

Our signature program, TPH Film Club, has three seasons – Fall, Winter, and Spring.  Each season consists of six films, often advance screenings of major films just prior to national release. Film Club is held on Wednesday evenings at our Pelham theater. Subscription to Film Club is an exclusive benefit for TPH members. If you’re interested in joining you can learn more here [link].

What other events happen at TPH?

As a complement to the magic on the big screen, we often have engaging live performances, concerts, panels, and other arts-oriented events. We frequently have advance screenings with special industry guests to give you an inside look at moviemaking.

Are there programs for Seniors at The Picture House?

Yes. In addition to education programs for adults, The Picture House also offers Senior Cinema, which welcomes people 65 and up to see the film playing in the Main Hall at TPH Pelham for free on Tuesday afternoons. The Tuesday matinee begins at 2:30, and seniors just need to come to the box office 10-15 minutes before the show for free admission. Senior Cinema does take a summer break. The program will pause after Memorial Day and begin again in September.

Is there a day when your ticket rates are discounted?

Yes! We offer half-price tickets on Tuesdays.

Can I rent a theater?

Yes. We rent our theaters for birthday parties and other private events. Please contact Jon Bingham at jon@thepicturehouse.org for more information.

How can I contact you?

Education

Do all of The Picture House’s education programs take place at the theater?

Our education programs take place at both theaters, in schools, and virtually. Camps and classes for elementary, middle, and high school students take place either at Pelham or Bronxville. We also work with Westchester schools to provide programs in classrooms across the county. Our programs for adults usually take place over Zoom.

Are your education programs for kids or adults?

Both! We offer camps, classes, and in-school programs for elementary and high school students. We also have Film Study for Adults, a program where participants watch a designated film and then join in a Zoom discussion led by an instructor who is an expert in the subject up for discussion.
