What’s happening at The Picture House

Movies Springing Up at TPH This April

by Sarah Soliman

This spring, there’s a lot to look forward to at the movies, with some of the biggest stars back on the big screen in fantasy adventures, side-splitting comedies, and a gripping true-life sports story. Here are some of the films coming to The Picture House in the next few weeks.

As you read this, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves will have already started its run at TPH Bronxville. This fantasy-comedy manages to strike a balance between entertaining adventure for the average moviegoer, and satisfying story for anybody who has a regular D&D game going.

On April 4, the newest film directed by Ben Affleck, Air, opens at TPH Bronxville. With his earlier films, Gone Baby Gone, The Town, and Argo, Affleck proved himself as a filmmaker capable of thrilling work. The early buzz on Air, which centers around the true story of then-rookie Michael Jordan and his game-changing partnership with Nike, suggests that it’s similarly gripping.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie brings iconic video game characters to the big screen — and with a voice cast that includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, and Chris Pratt as Mario himself, this one is sure to be a thrill ride. Coming to both TPH locations on April 5.

Paint is a comedy starring Owen Wilson, with performances from fantastic character actors Michaela Watkins and Stephen Root. Wilson plays a Bob Ross-like painter, whose life unravels when a better, younger painter starts making a name for herself. Opening April 7 at TPH Pelham.

Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, and the rest of the crew are back in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, opening May 4 at TPH Bronxville. With stakes that are both personal and cosmic, this is a new Marvel epic not to be missed.

We’ll see you at the movies!
