National Native American Heritage Month: Celebrating with Film

by Francile Albright

The Picture House was so fortunate to welcome Adam Piron and N. Bird Runningwater as guest instructors for our online film study classes last November in honor of National Native American Heritage Month. We took a deep dive into the origins of Indigenous Cinema and the evolution of storytelling through an indigenous lens. Adam, currently serving as the Director of Indigenous Program at the Sundance Institute, chose two films for the class to watch at home and discuss together through Zoom. If you are looking for ways to learn more about the indigenous experience this (or any) month, we’d like to share Adam’s film selections, as well as a recording of our first Indigenous Cinema class. I highly recommend watching with friends; his lecture, along with the films, will lead to fascinating conversations.
