What’s happening at The Picture House

Sand Castle

by admin

Hello Picture House Community,

While we all celebrate our graduates and begin to think about spending more time outdoors in our parks and at our beaches, I thought I would share with you a recommendation from the 5th grade graduate in our house, Finn. It’s another beautifully animated film brought to you by the CG geniuses at ESMA (Ecole Superieure des Metiers Artistiques) that takes a close-up view of the imaginary world of a summer beach sand castle. Sand is particularly difficult to animate well, and it’s done excellently in this short. And who knew a crab could be so intimidating?

As the school year winds down, we will be changing our online education offerings, so our final arts break video will be next week, June 24th.

For the summer, we have some new programs in store! For students in grades K-5, we will provide free, weekly film challenges that inspire, instruct, and encourage students to use their imaginations to create short films that we will include in our Student Film Showcase in the fall. For middle and high school students, we will offer a hybrid in-person and online filmmaking class led by a professional filmmaker that will cater to highly motivated young filmmakers with individualized instruction. We will also be introducing a film study class for adults! Please stay tuned to these emails, our social media pages, and our website for more details.
In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this dramatic interpretation of the inner life of a sand castle.

Warmly,
Francile Albright, Director of Education at The Picture House
