Dear Picture House Community,
At The Picture House, we strive to bring film education programs to every community and provide access to the arts to anyone who wishes to participate. Since having to move online in March we’ve worked hard to come up with new and creative ways to connect with our students. And today, we’re excited to share our 2020 Student Showcase with you! Included in this special program are films from our in-person camp in February, all of the films submitted to us from students who participated in our Film Challenges, and films from our summer Master Class.
Ordinarily, we would be gathering together in our historic theater to watch and appreciate our students’ work with family and friends – making connections and supporting each other at the beginning of a new school year. Of course, this year is different, but the work is no less impressive and in fact may be more important than ever. The amount of creativity, perseverance, and resilience our students displayed in 2020 deserves a standing ovation.
If you or someone in your family enjoyed one of our 17 “arts break” activities, submitted a summer Film Challenge, learned how to edit in our Master Class, or participated in our first film study class for adults – we are so grateful! In an effort to keep costs low, and to continue to offer many of our programs free of charge, we rely on generous grants and donations from our supporters. We hope you will continue to connect with us and to support us in any way you can, because we truly can’t do it without you.
We hope that parents will invite friends and family to gather, online or safely distanced, to watch this program with your student filmmakers. Clap between films, talk about your students’ process, and congratulate them on a job well done. And please share your thoughts and pictures with us online using #TPHeducationathome and #TPHshowcaseathome – we want to hear from you!
Warmly, Francile Albright, TPH Director of Education
