Sundays with Sidney

Beginning in the early ’50s and for two decades after, Sidney Poitier was the top — and virtually sole — Black film star in Hollywood. Poitier was the first Black performer to be nominated for a Best Actor Oscar, and, five years later, he became the first Black man to win the statuette. His trailblazing career opened doors for following generations of Black actors. When he passed away in January of 2022, he left behind a significant and unique legacy.

This Black History Month, The Picture House will celebrate Poitier’s historic film career in the series Sundays with Sidney. Every Sunday in February at 5:00 pm, you can see a classic film starring Sidney Poitier on the big screen.
