We’re Wailing with Excitement for The Banshees of Inisherin

by Sarah Soliman

Heading into fall, movie lovers know that November and December will bring some of the year’s best films. Festival circuit buzz is in full swing and awards season prognostication gets going in force.

This year, one of the best reviewed and most anticipated films is The Banshees of Inisherin, the latest film from Oscar winner and Tony nominee Martin McDonagh, who audiences might know best as the filmmaker behind Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Fans of McDonagh’s BAFTA-winning debut feature film, In Bruges, will delight in seeing its stars, Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, back together in a story about the dissolution of a lifelong friendship. That premise may not sound rife for comedic potential, but anybody who has seen one of McDonagh’s previous films or plays will know he excels at crafting tales that are equal parts bleak and hilarious, and according to critics’ Banshees is his funniest, most moving film to date.
